How to Set up a new broadband(PPPoE) DSL or cable connection in Windows 8-To use the broadband(PPPoE- Point to Point Protocol over ethernet) you will need to create a connection and to to create a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) or cable connection, you first need an account with an Internet service provider (ISP). For DSL, the ISP is usually a landline phone or mobile phone service providing company and for a cable, it will usually be a cable operator or cable TV service provider. You will also need to have a modem and a router, or a combination the these two. Some of the ISPs provide you  these devices free or at cost but if your ISP doesn't, you'll need to buy them. When you have your modem, router, or combination device, either follow the instructions provided by your ISP, or follow the steps given below.

Creating a broadband connection in Windows 8 using combined modem and router(Single Device)

For safety of your equipments, it is best practice to complete the step 1 and 2 before connecting the modem to the power supply or switching on.
1.                  Plug one end of the cable into the wide area network (WAN) port of the device, and the other end into the wall jack. The WAN port should be labeled "WAN.".
2.                  Plug one end of an Ethernet cable into the local area network (LAN) port on the device, and then plug the other end into the networking port of the computer. The LAN port should be labeled "LAN." (Skip this step if wirelessly,.)
3.                  Connect the device to the power and switch it on.
4.                  Start the computer or restart the system if you have done it while your computer was on.
5.                  Click Start button.
6.                  Click Control Panel.,
7.                  Type ‘network’ in the search box,
8.                  Click Network and Sharing Center.
9.                  Click Set up a new connection or network.
10.              Double-click Connect to the Internet.
11.              Follow the steps in the wizard and enter your user ID and Password provided by your Internet service provider (ISP).

For safety of your equipments, it is best practice to complete the step 1 and 2 before connecting the modem to the power supply or switching on.

2.              Plug one end of an Ethernet cable into the modem and other end into the wide area network (WAN) port on the router.
3.                  Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the local area network (LAN) port on the router, and other end into the networking port on the computer. (Skip this step if connecting wirelessly)
4.                  Connect the modem to the power and switch it on
5.                  Connect the router to the power and switch it on
6.                  Start the computer or restart the system if you have done it while your computer was on.
7.                  Click Start.
8.                  Click Control panel.
9.                  Type ‘network’ in the search box.
10.              Click ‘Network and Sharing Center’
11.              Click ‘Set up a new connection or network’.
12.              Double-click ‘Connect to the Internet’.
