Cedric-The Carbon Nanotube Computer

A computer built entirely of transistors, semiconductors based on carbon nanotubes is called Carbon Nanotube Computer. A team of researchers at Stanford University(USA), in an article published on 25 September 2013 in the journal Nature claimed to have made the first Carbon Nanotube Computer. They named their first carbon nanotube computer CEDRIC. A  basic prototype “Cedric” could be developed into a machine more efficient than today's silicon models which may be smaller and faster. A carbon nanotube computer could, in theory, be faster and smaller. though, the material is challenging to work with. For instance, the quartz substrate used in carbon nanotubes are made, may grow erratically on the other hand some tubes conducting electricity like a metal. The standard semiconductor for processors is silicon and Carbon nanotubes are thought to be successor to silicon for processor fabrication.

It runs a basic operating system which allows it to swap back and forth between two tasks - for instance, counting and sorting numbers and unlike carbon-based computers, Cedric gets the right answer every time. Still it is in infancy and nothing can be told about future. The main Characteristics are 1 bit processor, Speed: 1 kHz, 178 transistors, 10-200 nanotubes per transistor, 2 billion carbon atoms, Turing complete, Multitasking

  5. No significant development about this technology is in the media news or internet news. Either this technology is no progressing or it may be progressing very slow

  6. This is a new technology and still in it's early and developing stage. Coming days and more developments will tell weather it may prove better than the existing technology or not.
